Great Northern Road

by Eric & The Soo

/
1.
I'm getting tired of this city life, Going back to the place that I once growed, There ain't no psychedelic fisherman, Out on that Great Northern Road In the city I could not seem to catch my breath, Out there the pace has rather slowed, I got a bed made out of evergreen, Out on that Great Northern Road CHORUS: Mama won't you meet me at the station, Children won't you please come home? You're looking kind of down in the holler, And you're looking most alone I never had a problem with directions I just follow my nose I get my sweetest recollections Out on that Great Norther Road CHORUS: Mama won't you meet me at the station, Children won't you please come home? You're looking kind of down in the holler, And you're looking most alone I never suffered from a lack of sleep My appetite just grows and grows Blue fly buzzing in the afternoon Out on that Great Northern Road

about

An undiscovered classic from my hometown of Sault Ste. Marie (aka 'The Soo'). This song was written by former Sault native, the late great Tim Ryan and appeared on his 1970 debut solo album "The Runner". It's an excellent album that features songs written by both Tim and his longtime musical partner Bob Yeomans, who is still active in the Sault Ste. Marie music scene. Tim and Bob later went on to form Toronto-based band "Jackson Hawke" who had a few hits in the 70's. This song really spoke to me as it tells a story that parallels my own life, and the pull that I have always felt towards the beauty of Sault Ste. Marie despite having been away for so long. I'm really glad to have to have the chance to share this with you. - Eric Brombacher

about

Eric & The Soo Toronto, Ontario

While Eric & The Soo's debut album "Small Town Dreamer" saw Toronto-based songwriter Eric Brombacher looking inwards and backwards to his past and his childhood in his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, his follow-up "Modern Dystopia" sees him looking more outwards and forwards, at society as a whole and at our future on this beautiful planet we call Earth.
Is there still hope for our beautiful world?
